Novellas and short stories get a number with a decimal point, so that readers know they're shorter works and can tell what the exact series order is--the novella before this one (Shade's Lady) is numbered 6.5, so we know it happens before this one and that both novellas' timelines are set between the events of book 6 (Reaper's Fire) and those of any book 7 that might come in the future.(less)
