But I disagree that the serious sex scenes are brief or not graphic. The entire book is based on sexual power. There are scenes that describe to varying degrees: rape, prostitution, castration, murder during the course of sex, pedophilia, cannibalism (within a larger context of sexual abuse), using sexual pain to force obedience/as a form of control, etc. As another respondent mentioned, many abusers are "punished" in the series, but one of the main heroes does and has done many things that are sexually abusive himself. In the first book at least, he is not punished for those actions, which are justified in the context of the book, because he is being treated unjustly by the women he abuses and kills. So if, for example, you are asking because you are wondering if it is appropriate for kids, then I think the answer is "This book is not appropriate for kids, and may not be appropriate for teens depending on your beliefs as a parent."(less)

Yes, these books are packed with action, hilarity and awesomeness. If you're a fan of intrigue and fantasy, this is the book for you.

You're worried about (A) the length of the series and (B) the age of the female lead?
A. Yes, there are 9 books in the series, but it's not just one continuous story. The first 3 books are one sequence of events and the others just continue the story - just think of it as a trilogy, and the rest as bonus if you like it.

B. There's a couple different races, and some of them are long-lived; the main girl character you mentioned isn't one of those. Her being a child in the beginning is important, and it's a joy to watch her grow up.

Quick guide (following Bishop's recommended reading order):
-Books 1, 2 & 3 make up the main trilogy
-Book 4 is a stand-alone novel set in the past
-Books 5 & 9 are short stories featuring the main characters before and after the events in the main trilogy
-Book 6 features 2 of the supporting characters as the leads (the original leads do make appearances)
-Books 7 & 8 introduce new leads that follow the events in Book 4

Hope that helps :D(less)

The main characters are mostly rather long-lived (like the fey, yet not) and act/talk/think like a mature adult, with the exception of one main character who is a child in the first book. Not sure how the other two read in the first trilogy cycle of the series; I've only just finished Daughter of the Blood.(less)

The amount of abuse and emotional trauma it deals with is certainly not something you would want to sick on unknowing kids. It does not even fall within the class of YA. (less)
