It was more about what living real life was like for "Cinderella's" stepmother and the stepsisters, not the fairy tale side of the story. There is definitely love, but not romance. There are some times where Agnes is the victim of some "lashings" including from men and employers, but it does not go into gory detail. It's honestly what I expected to read about a woman born into Serfdom. The whole point of the story is that she wasn't portrayed fairly in peoples' memory and she wasn't an "evil" stepmother.(less)
