I think it's good for raising awareness to what ALS sufferers and their families are living but would serve no purpose for a patient diagnosed with ALS. They either already know, or will soon be living through this nightmare, no need to exacerbate the emotions. (less)

I didn't think it was Genova's best - which is "Still Alice" in my opinion, but it is a very good read. I loved all the musical references since I took piano lessons as a child and teenager and still love classical music but also appreciate jazz, which are highlighted in the book. As she does so masterfully, Genova weaves in the reality of these neurological diseases with a darn good human story. I was inspired to Google recent research on ALS - but Genova also includes an epilogue with acknowledgments as well an update on the most recent ALS drug approved by FDA.
