There is some sexuality, language, and a touch of violence, but I feel like a mature kid in the 12+ range will enjoy a lot of the thematic elements, particularly in the story of Sam's younger years. My 13-year-old son is currently reading it, and, despite is teenage angst and general hatred of everything, he has told me how much he likes the book multiple times.(less)

The thing I love about this scene (and many others) is that every single one of these experiences (bad and good) are what ends up making Sam who he is.
