Basically you can watch episode 3 and then read this. The first book just gives more backstory and character building for Episode 3 so the plot and twists seem less rushed and more emotional. That said, I strongly recommend reading the novelization of episode 3 not because in anyway I'd say it's required for this (if you've seen the movie) but because it's just a really good book and the author tells the story better than Lucas.(less)
