I feel like i'm missing something, what was making the drumming sound? And also is there going to be a third book?

Matthew Bing maybe. maybe not.

I was really excited to read this book after spirit hunters. Was anyone else bothered by the really problematic racist trope at center of the story? Western literature has so many examples of heroes going to an "exotic" island and saving the day. Obviously the white savior trope is about more than skin color, its about a colonialist mindset. And the name Raine is so tied to Western monarchy!

Sawyer ... the main character is korean
