His other works lend great oversight information into the shared world but are absolutely not required for either The Prefect or Elysium Fire. I’d recommend reading The Prefect before this just to have a better depth on the main characters.(less)

He explains just e…moreFor me, I think the creepy/horror factor with Reynolds comes from his expert timing when he reveals information throughout a story. He explains just enough of a concept to keep the plot moving, but leaves a strong sense of mystery which I find more satisfying than having all the answers up-front.

I think Elysium Fire had less mystery than Reynold's other stories (like the Revelation Space novels) but it was still very enjoyable.(less)
