why do all the three boys think the others are better with girls? I can believe that they are all a bit insecure, but how come none of them can see it in the others and somehow they are each others' object of envy regarding 'girl skills'? While each book can stand on its own as a good read certain situations, plots and characters only truly come to light with an understanding of the whole story.
In short... best to read the books in sequence. (less)

I've just started with book 3, so I don't want any spoilers. So the thing is that the Wheel keeps turning and Ages repeat themselves. I assume each Age the Dragon Reborn fights the Dark One, right? And each time the Dragon has won so far, or what happened in past Ages? And why is the current Age special? I keep reading that if Rand fails defeating the Dark One, darkness will take over forever, right? Why?

I just completed Book 3 and I too, feel like this seems like an endless cycle. I'm not sure if this is accurate or will help, but I think the current Age, The Third Age is special because it's supposed to be the 'Last Battle'. If I understand correctly, this will be the absolute final battle which will mean the Dark One cannot rise again. However, the most important question remains - will Rand be able to defeat the Dark One (not just seal him), without causing another Breaking of the World like Lews Therin Telamon did in the Second Age?
