Each book is good on it's own, but the author refers to events from the other books often enough to spoil the other books if you haven't read them. It also will help you understand many of the personal relationships in the book that aren't given as much introduction in this book as they would be if the reader is not expected to have read the first books. You wouldn't be lost though. (less)
