Just like Nero, Flat Stanley's mother, Harriet Lambchop, was implicated in the death of the young boy's father, George. Continuing the similarities, Flat Stanley had his mother murdered five years after receiving his condition, as did Nero. Stanley's flatness is a direct metaphor for Nero's public appearances as an actor, poet, musician and charioteer. In the eyes of traditionalists, this undermined the dignity and authority of his person, status, and office, modeled by the flatness of Stanley's body. As a final piece of evidence, Stanley burned many Christians alive as scapegoats for the Great Fire, which is obviously a direct liaison between the two. Hope this helped! (less)
