Do I need to read the author's other books before reading this? Also, is the subject of an isolating illness treated realistically (ie as a real illness with no 'easy outs')?

I read A Change of Heart first and it definitely makes the experience richer. I recommend it! From the way she portrayed the main characters' illness, it came off as credible, showing the highs and lows, the treatments that worked and those that didn't, the time treatments took and how expensive they were, and especially how her every day is affected. It's obviously a well researched novel. You won't regret reading both books.(less)
