I am half way through this story and the setting is very similar to another book that I read at least a year ago(?). I actually thought this book was a sequel to a the book I had read, multiple young females are sent away for a week to the shore (Boston?) as a respite from their sparse immigrant childhood. Does anyone know the book title of this story? Thanks in advance for your guidance.
Kim I just started this book last night and had the same thoughts. And it was the Boston Girl by Anita Diamant.

I looked at Wikipedia and North Station opened in 1926. In the 19th century, each train line (B&M, B&L, Old Colony, etc) stopped at its own terminal (which I didnt know!).
So given all of that limited information, maybe one of the trainlines stopped at North Union Station (which predated North Station) from NY. But I agree, in modern times and as long as I can remember, the North Station and South Station took trains in different directions! I commuted to Boston via South Station to my home in Dedham for example, and would have to T it over to North Station to go up to my brother's on the North Shore.(less)
