Last Man is a novel about Orwell's life from thirties through to death, and shows how events likely shaped his views and the themes in 1984. I found it fascinating to see how the world in those decades, and Orwell's own personal experiences, helped to shape the book.

It's a novel, but looks to be very well researched and as close as possible to Orwell's actual life.(less)
