My friend recommended Romain Gary's books for his beautiful writing. Some parts are translated very well and some are not. Is it just me? How can you say "an entire people" "unhesitating trust" "Nazis start in on them".

On Page 222, Ludo mentions a William Blake poem with the lines, "One of his hands was covered in blood. The other carried the torch." Does this refer to an actual Black poem, and if so, which one?
