Theresa Moon died because the author decided to do that, and unfortunately a lot of dogs suffer being hit by cars. I agree with you though, it is sad. :(

ATrueBookworm The main dog, Squirrel, does not die. I believe that a few dogs she meets in her journey do die, but I do not remember which ones.
