Dolores Cannon's hypnosis sessions say that Jesus studied with the Essenes in his youth and again as an adult, tho he was not a lifelong member of the Essenes. Edgar Cayce's readings by contrast said that it was Mary, his mom, who was brought up in the Essene community.
There were three main segments of Jewish society at the time: Sadducees, Pharisees, and Essenes -- and a very small group of Zealots. Jesus does not seem to have been embraced, shall we say, by the first two groups, and supposedly renounced the Zealots, so while very little was known about Essenes, it was assumed that he was an Essene. So we may be wrong about that; he might have belonged to a fifth sect that we don't know anything about yet, or he may have been brought up under a different but related culture completely. (less)
