Why is this story considered to be a fairytale? The young girl has an extraordinary imagination and a wonderful ability to hope and dream. But I don't see anything magical within the story.

He is known for writing fairy tales, but if they were his original ideas, then I think they are technically fantasy and classic. Sometimes terms are broadly used and misapplied. It only really annoys me when I am trying to teach my students words to use to categorize and talk about books, and then something like this pops up and confuses them. (less)

Why do people rate this story so highly when it has no value at all? Is it trying to say that it's a good thing for the girl to freeze to death so that she can see her grandmother? After all, if she doesn't die, then she would suffer frostbite and still return to the abusive father, according to the story...
