As the memoir is written, you won't miss anything by skipping that chapter.(less)

I remember wearing…moreSlips were thin, silky, sleeveless garments with straps that you wore as an extra layer under your clothes and over your underwear. I remember wearing them in the mid-1960s. Their purpose was to have something soft between your skin and possibly scratchy or uncomfortable clothing, and also so your bra wouldn't show. There were also half slips, just the bottom part with an elasticized waist, for wearing under a skirt. It was emotional for her mother because it was an indication that she was starting to become a woman. Before that, she probably would have been wearing undershirts.(less)
