As noted in my review, I loved the inclusion of Sophie as a major character in the book and, suspect given the right circumstances, would enjoy it in other books as well. Including Sophie's perspectives into the narrative created more of a bond for me with Sophie; I felt an overwhelming need to protect her and routed for her emotional evolution as I would a child. I loved this aspect of the story!(less)

Though I don't want every book to be troubling or emotionally wrenching (e.g., I love authors like Elinor Lipmann and Evelyn Waugh as well), I do strongly appreciate when a novel truly moves me. A book that affected me in a similar way that The Mourning Parade did was Karen Joy Fowler's wonderful We are Completely Beside Ourselves.(less)
