It amazes me how TDS has influenced so many of the "top" reviews on goodreads these past few years, as people race to virtue signal their trendy groupthink lefty politics. Does this book actually have anything to do with "social justice" politics, or is it just an interesting sci fi/fantasy story about a literally shrinking man? Now that your dreaded bogey man "Drumpf" is out of office, can you answer honestly please.

It thoroughly explores the "what if" scenario of a man who is shrinking. There is a surface adventure element once the main character becomes too small to interact with humans, but mostly it deals with the psychological, financial and sexual problems of a man who is losing a 7th of an inch per day. If there are layers of ideology, they are well hidden to me. We have all felt loss of ability, health and finances, or loss of friends and lovers. I think if the shrinking is a metaphor it is that alone, just about loss. (less)
