I suspect today's adolescents are a lot more knowing about their world than I was in my relatively small town at that time. Content includes a main character probably based on The Count of Monte Cristo, abandoned in space [in this case] who seeks revenge, does a lot of horrible things to get it, and changes over the book to a different, more compassionate human being. I read a lot of sci fi and fantasy, with my mother's permission, as young as 13. I think it's up to the parent or librarian to read the book or many reviews about it first if they aren't sure what age children should read it.(less)
