Why does this author keep sending me SPAM emails with offers for his book? It's happened multiple times. After sending each email he deletes the user account so that I can't respond to him directly and ask him to stop contacting me. I'm doing it here. I do not LIKE these kinds of books.

And I will not be reading ANYTHING by this author, now or ever, even if he starts creating the kinds of books I DO enjoy.

Spamming people from immediately-deleted accounts only means you get a LOT of pissed off people looking for your author page. It also smacks of desperation and a lack of social skills, online or otherwise. If this man really things so poorly of his work that he thinks shady tactics are the only way to get people to buy it, far be it from me to disagree. You've convinced me dude, you AND your work sucks.

Hey all, I received an email purporting to be a goodreads message from the author of this book and offering me a free download. When I checked my goodreads account, there is no such message. This guy has obviously managed to get goodreads' data in his hands. I don't intend to click the link for the so-called "free download" and will wait for a hard copy to appear in my local library?

Based on what I read on a comment thread on this book, he sends messages and then deletes his account. This means you can't block him. Unfortunately, the only way I can think of to ensure you stop receiving emails from him is to change your email settings in your account settings. Change your "Who can send me private messages" to "just my friends".

As for your other question, he has been reported to GR Support. They apparently know who "Brett" is. Although he has repeatedly violated GR's Terms of Service, I don't know if they have or can do anything about it. This is not to dissuade you from reporting your spam email to GR if you would like. Maybe if they get enough reports, they'll act on it. (less)

Is it just me, or does anyone else suspect that many of the comments below come from rating farms? Many of the accounts seem...strange, and some seem to copy language from one another. Is there a way to get that looked into? Does Goodreads investigate such things?
