The plots are rather predictable, and she "solves" her mysteries almost always by being in the right place at the right time, having clues handed to her on a silver platter.

That said, as a 10 year old, I found Nancy very cool. She can drive a car, fly a plane, goes off on weekend jaunts with her beau. But she never needs Ned to save her. And she never needs Ned to figure things out. As other reviewers have noted the original 30s versions are no longer politically correct. The African-Americans are referred to as "colored." The colored people in the story usually speak in dialect and have menial jobs. I see this more as an observation of the times than racist, but that's just me. Nancy has no knee-jerk bigotry, she's polite to everyone, even the dirt-bag wife of the sailor, lol.(less)
