For the most part, all three books in the series are essentially unrelated. There is some carry-over between Book #1 and Book #2, but Book #3 doesn't involve any of the original characters and is nearly completely self-contained. There might be some peripheral information about alien species that was introduced in Book #2, but nothing central to the story. (less)

Obviously, Book 2 took off straight after Book 1 & in the beginning of this book it says that this one starts when Book 1 finishes. So Book 2 & 3 are happening at the same time, just different place & different characters.
Really it could be read as a standalone. (less)
