I've read every book in the series along with the novellas and Atticus has always come across as an everyman's kind of hero. He's hard working when he has to be but he'd much prefer to kick back and enjoy life. Granuille should have been the friend and lover that would be a great payoff for Atticus and a wonderful character for the readers to love. Sadly I think she's become tedious and mostly a non-event of distraction in the narrative. For all the empathetic love she supposedly has for nature, she really doesn't seem to care much about hurting people if they displease her.
I find Own a far more honest character in that he's got an ancient and alien mindset but he's aware of it and he's working on changing it, albeit somewhat slowly. He's far less pretentious and self righteous than the newest druid to my thinking.
I really loved her in the early days but now I find Granuille bordering on being as ill behaved as some of the gods that we learned to hate in these books. I miss the Morrigan. She was tough and often brutal but she was honest about it. (less)
