I thought that this book depicted their relationship realistically. Even had David not found out something she was not willing to share and hidden that from her for years, even if he had not secretly been talking to and meeting with her dad when she expressly asked him not to... Even then, the kind of personal shifts that would happen from finally processing this kind of trauma would create huge ripples in long standing relationships.

Also, while I can see how David being a nice guy makes us feel bad for him I think it's also true of most of our relationships. 80% of relationships have two nice people in them, who do the best they can and screw up a bit too, and for whatever reason they break up because something just isn't working, or the timing is off, or whatever. It's just life. And this book, if nothing else, is really just depicting life.(less)

How much graphic/disturbing content is in this book? I like cozy mysteries, but it sounds like this may be darker and grittier than I prefer. I don't like gore/horror.
