Didn’t anyone else suspect who the kidnapper was in Chapter 17? I am so disappointed. It’s sad that the characters didn’t pick up on it. I was really into the book until this part.
John I mean, it went through my mind, but I felt there was plenty of other people to suspect as well.

I am having trouble understanding the connection with Detective Ortiz and Valerie, Lainey's mother. It seemed like Lainey thought Ortiz betrayed her by being in contact with her mother. Is this accurate? Also, it almost read as though Valerie was involved in Emma's original disappearance. Was I reading that correctly?

Laine's mother was involved. She mentions drugging Laine, and then said it was time for Laine to earn her keep. Apparently she was beginning to prostitute Laine, but the kidnapper never brought her home like he was supposed to.(less)

how old is Laine supposed to be? Was she 13, kidnapped for 3 years, found at 16? Or was she 10, kidnapped for 3 years, found at 13?
Amanda It is stated early in the book that Laine is currently 23. She was kidnapped at age 10, held for 3 years, and eventually rescued at age 13.
