Has it really happened that someone was forcibly conscripted into the SS? To the Wehrmacht, yes. But to the SS (or using the full name Waffen-SS)? Very unlikely. The Waffen-SS were units made up of volunteers. At the end of war, conscripts were also sent there. However, even then, the most ideological and trusted ones were selected. And they were given the choice between serving in the Waffen-SS and the Wehrmacht.

If you weren't conscripted, you were still able to volunteer (if you were physically and mentally fit). The SS was volunteer-only until 1943, where the SS started a draft around Nazi-occupied areas."(less)
