But goodness every woman introduced is written painfully poorly. Weak and overly emotional. Slut shamed. Objectified. Unintelligent. Even the ones that are supposed to be "tough and powerful" are totally undone by a breath of effort from a man....sometimes literally a breath. An insult that hurts her feelings. It's been a while since I've read something that so poorly portrays women.(less)

The romance is definitely something that drives multiple characters and is something enjoyable to read, but it isn't like you are reading A Court of Thorns and Roses where this is an even split between romance and action. I actually stopped reading this book about 2/3 in, so there may have been some new women introduced into the story who may have been pretty badass and strong.
But with that out the way, I will say that the females in this story did not come off as strong or independent to me at all. In fact, the love interest, Elene, was so incredibly dull and frustrating (and not to mention weak, in my opinion) that I quit the damn book. (less)
