I'm baffled by the idea that the "Christian Right" (whatever that means) has ANY control over anything that's being taught in public schools, let alone sex education. The 60s are over, yet this archaic mindset still exists? Other than a few remaining pockets of normalcy hidden away in America, from what I can see, the Left completely controls all of public education, as well as the vast majority of higher education.

It could have been better if it talked more about the influence of the Left on public education. Certain groups of feminists did team up with the "Christian Right" to bring about sex-negative change, though Levine makes little mention of that.(less)

The "Christian Right" refers to the faction of conservative activists who base their aggressive (yes, indeed) social and political activism on Christian morality. They have, especially since the '70s, had a pointed interest, and strong influence, on the way sex education is taught (or not??) in public schools, especially via pressing the sweeping agenda of abstinence. This is the reality.
