When did this become a quintet? I bought the quartet a couple years back but here it's labeled as a 'quintet'... The quartet even came in a nice tidy box holding all the books in neat order, for crying out loud!

Why such a long section about Alessandra and her mother’s background only to abandon their story in the middle of the plot? Was their a point to Alessandra’s inclusion? Does she reappear in other novels?

Why so many crazy mamas in this book? Alessandra's mother and grandmother. Randall Firth's mother. There are certainly manipulative male characters in the 5 books I've read so far, but not downright crazy-ish. I find this trope heavy-handed, lopsided, just terribly odd.
