The book and its sequels contain some warfare and associated kinds of violence and death, with some descriptive detail, in particular mentions of blood. There's also some non-warfare-related violence and death. But there aren't what I would consider gory descriptions of bodies or wounds, and there's no torture and zero sexual assault. The violence isn't omnipresent, and occurs in a minority of chapters.

A few of the later books include religious/ritualistic scenes that have elements of consuming blood or hearts, which might be among the darkest scenes. There are some psychologically dissociative moments in later books as well, though not very extensive.(less)
