The synopsis sounded so promising and unusual but as I plod through it reads as though two different people have written this story. It's written in volumes, and different time periods, but not very well. Present day Darcy and his American friends appear to be too English in their speech and mannerisms as they wile away their time in Virginia. The estate is called a farm not a ranch for instance. They drink cocktails on the terrace. They speak rather aristocratic English. ( I know I am English). All in all, a good subject amateurishly written with overly wordy sentences and elongated descriptions of things that don't matter. This presumably because the correct wording would not come to mind. I don't think I will finish this book.(less)
