This story sounds exactly like the Masai folktale that is the basis of Who's in Rabbit's House, Verna Aardema, 1992 a great children's book and I haven't seen anywhere that Donaldson is crediting the folktale in the book. Does she? I would hate to think that she's appropriated the tale without providing the background.
