Try Ngiao Marsh (who I think is better than Christie), Deborah Crombie, J New, Frances Brody, Elizabeth Peters (Amelia Peabody series) Carola Dunn, Rhys Bowen.....the list goes on. But if you want to laugh out loud--read the Sinful series by Jana DeLeon--I was in tears laughing so hard!

Then he …moreYes, the author published the first two books as A Quiet Life in the Country (originally a group of short stories) and The Spirit is Willing. Then he rewrote them for the new publisher and now they are A Quiet Life in the Country and In the Market for Murder. (less)

When the series was picked up by Thomas & Mercer, both books were rewritten and retitled to become the first two books in the "new" series. Everything in each of the first two books didn't land in the same place in the two new books. Things were changed, things were rearranged. (less)
