This book, as writte…moreI agree with Jack Simmons, the movie was a better story than the book and I think because of the addition of the other character. This book, as written, doesn't age well. The main character is mildly Republican, and willfully unaware of racism in this country (page 87 in the paperback). If Ryan were alive in 2022 I imagine he would have moved from merely liking Christian music to full on Evangelistic Christianity, and from being mildly unaware of racism to being full on Blue lives Matter, but of course there's no way to tell. . . that's just my assessment of the main protagonist(less)
