Is there anyone that just didn't feel connected to the book? I read the English version and just found it to be so distant. I didn't feel like I cared about the characters until the last 50 or so pages of the novel when things about the civil war started clicking into place but before that I didn't feel any connection to their lives. No sympathy. Was the translation off? Am I missing something? I feel so confused...
