The author did a great deal of research, including interviewing members of the Chess family and relatives of the musicians mentioned in the book. Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters, Sunnyland Slim, Bo Diddley, Willie Dixon and other musicians in the book were human beings. However, others in the book, including Leeba, Red, Aileen, Mimi and JJ are fictional characters.(less)
