There is a lot to like about this book. It makes my 2nd graders laugh out loud. This book is silly but also provides plenty to talk about: being true to yourself, using animals in the entertainment industry, & big game hunting. My question, and my concern with this book has to do with the guns. I feel really uncomfortable with all the shooting. Is it appropriate to read a book to 2nd graders with guns in it?

This book neither promotes, condones or shuns firearms - Lafcadio esentially uses it as a tool or prop, and later as an integral part of his profession.

Everyone has a special skill, and using his tail to fire a gun preformatively is Lafcadio's. I don't know why that would be grounds on its own to boycott a book. Rather, it's an excellent way to embrace diversity and inclusion.(less)
