Does anybody know about Tess? She wasn't mentioned as one of the mothers seven personalities and she just disappeared in the middle of the book. She wasn't mentioned again. Was she real? She mentioned talking to Althea, so she must have known about her personalities. Yet she didn't tell anyone. Or did I miss something?

Then Catherine s…moreI'm answering my own question here, but I looked back in the book and Catherine tells Tess to stay away from William Heitmeyers room. Then Catherine showers and loses time. She wakes up and can't remember getting out of the shower. That is when Catherine as Tess killed William Heitmeyer, in my opinion. (less)

Did I miss something: why were there suitcases in the basement left behind by “first time guests who never returned?” I thought maybe Mavis was killing guests and burying the bodies in the lot next door. But this bit was never wrapped up. Anyone pick up on this?

I had the same question because it wasn’t really clear and there was no mention that she was convicted of those crimes. She told me it was safe to assume that she was convicted of all the murders. Who was tess?was she Catherine or her mom ? and at the end when mama told her she won’t tell her secret to anyone, what was that secret? This book has left me confused as hell, I feel like pulling my hair out..

Malvika I am pretty sure that Tess was Catherine, since she mentioned her mother having seven personalities in front of Elliott.. or maybe it is just a loose …moreI am pretty sure that Tess was Catherine, since she mentioned her mother having seven personalities in front of Elliott.. or maybe it is just a loose end that the author forgot all about (unlikely, but could be); although her mum asking a question like that to her might signify or point towards the start of Catherine's personality disorder too. Gah, I wish the author would clear some of these doubts.(less)
