What is the level of reading? My daughter is 11, but reads above grade level and is able to handle more mature topics. She has read books about service dogs for survivors of the Iraq War. She loved White Fang and Call to the Wild. Any thoughts or other recommendations?

The book is fairly easy to read (in terms of vocabulary and sentences) but I wouldn't recommend it to children below 11 because of the exploration of family themes and because the adventure side of the story could be too scary for some. A mature 11-year-old should be okay with it, as long as parents/guardians are happy for them to read a book with mild bad language in.(less)
