Usually I have problems with big books of this type but this one is captivating. Of course I've seen some of the movies and that might have helped but I don't think so. This one wasn't written by Tom Clancy and maybe that makes a difference. Mark is a great author and I love the pace of his book. Very enjoyable. I look forward to reading many more. He reminds me a little of David Baldacci and the Camel Club. It and the Campus are a little similar. I've read a lot of Nelson Demille and there are some similarities between the two as well. We'll see how things work out. I'll leave a detailed report when I've finished.(less)

This is the first Jack Ryan novel I have read in a while. How is the senior Ryan still president? If memory serves, he was made president when his predecessor was killed over twenty years ago! The junior Ryan was still a child then.
Jennifer Wall He was President 20 years ago, and then he campaigned and won in the election. He will not be President after this term.

So is Gerry Hendley from Kentucky or South Carolina? I've seen both. Not a big deal, but as a South Carolinian, I take note when characters are also claimed to be South Carolinians, and even greater note when all the sudden they're not.
