I tried to read Lilac Girls and had to stop because it was too intense with the details of the awful things that happened during WW2. Is this book similar in that way?

They always looked forward with optimism and seemed to tackle each problem as it came along. The way the families in this book bonded lovingly and spiritually was amazing, also. (less)

A precocious 13-year-old - absolutely not! A thoughtful sixteen or seventeen year old, who (as I did when that age) wants to read "holocaust literature," sure. Many kids today are too sheltered - they need to know this history so they won't contribute to repeating it!(less)
