But then Robichaud asked Laura about it, I was glad to get explanation. And it all seemed reasonable until Robichaud claimed to have seen opossum at the same time as Ted, when nobody else did.
From here one can only guess. Maybe nothing was real and the epilogue still takes place in one of Ted's cycles (as he wished, he dies, but not from the suicide, and is remedied in the eyes of ex-wife and daughters). Maybe Robichaud is also a bit crazy and saw non-existent opossum. Maybe Ted's reaction to opossum was so convincing that Robichaud just thinks that he also saw it. Maybe it is just a false memory.
I have never thought about opossum as possibly related to Ted's sadism (as his father's towards spiders and bugs). For me it is an indicator of disturbed mind. It could be a validation of reality: if the opossum is present, Ted is either dreaming or in one of his cycles inside his head.(less)
