Kate's mother is an anthropologist whose focus is the study of Old Norse and the Viking Age. She appreciates the various foods and cultures of the world, but especially of Northern Europe/Scandinavia. She loves to use words and phrases in foreign languages, such as German or Finnish, but also of whatever country she happens to be visiting :) This is a habit that works well for comedic fiction!
Tampere has an excellent university, which is why I chose it. (less)
