Still cant fathom, how big is their universe? Does it just span one solar system? They keep on mentioning "the old sun", so I feel like this is contained in one solar system with many (50 million?) micro worlds artificially created using gravity wells and stuff. And why do those baubles keep opening and closing, and any mention of who created them ? if it was for safekeeping tech, shouldn't they just keep shut ?

To me this book feels like a badly written teenage fan fiction. Does it reflect the overall skills of Reynolds, or should I give him another chance with a hard scifi?

Or, a great, great stand-alone is House of Suns. Don't abandon Reynolds, just this book (and others in any associated series.)(less)
