They don't really leave you hanging as if you need to read the rest of the series to see how the world is ultimately saved. None of that.
As you get further into her series, there are often events, characters, and even clues, in earlier books of the series that are helpful, but not necessary, to enjoy the later books.
In fact, usually, at least one of the lead characters is a supporting character from an earlier book. But even the later books can stand alone because earlier events are summarized sufficiently to keep up.
I've read many MB books out of order. That can be slight spoilers for earlier books, but I can't say any were ruined.
Once in a while, a character or two crosses over series.(less)
