It deals with mature themes and attempts to tackle young adult issues realistically (bullying, popularity, drinking, sex) though through the somewhat rose-tinted glasses of the protagonists as they navigate through their first year of high school.(less)

Yes, the characters are 14/15 throughout the novel, and do tackle the relevant young adult issues raised with wisdom and maturity, but they also make realistically naive decisions at times when they are figuring things out. When I wrote this book, I intended it to be for an YA audience but also something that anyone older could enjoy as well, however, the focus is on what it's like to be a gay or questioning 14 or 15 year old in high school today.(less)
