I have read 4 of Darcy Coates books. This one and the Haunting of Ashburn House seem nearly identical. Are most of her books just like these two? Craven Manor and The Folcroft Ghosts were just different enough that I didn't feel like I was reading the same plot but they were still close enough to suspect what was coming from having read her other books. I was disappointed.

For starters the house is not haunted in Ashburn, its more of a family curse and there are no spooky ghosts terrorizing her. In Blackwood, the house wants to get you dead, period. Also the protagonists are quite different, both are independent and poor, but Mara is a non believer that just sees ghost happenings and refuses to let go of the house whereas Adrienne sees the (lets call it corpse and leave it at that to not spoil it for everyone...) and she can't literally leave. Also, they are really different personality-wise, Mara is angry most of the time, she faces things head on and Adrienne is timid, shy, lonely and afraid. She has to confront the situation because she has no other choice. Well, I do hope that clears that for other people reading the questions. And yes, other books differ more on every aspect, but these too are just haunted houses stories.(less)
